THE SINGULARITY

UNOCOSA'S SMALL LITTLE THINGS #007:
A SMALL COLLECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHS,
EACH FOCUSED ON ONE SINGLE SUBJECT

... It seems to me that always those little lonesome single things speak to me most. I never believed conformity. The things that were singled out from their surrounding must have echoed that mentality. I felt close to them.

Anecdote
I am very sensitive to the shade of red. No matter how small the object is, if it is in some sorts of red shades, it will catch my eyes. On the way to work, walking by a dense bushes in the neighbor's yard, here it was: the tinniest dots of red, fell down from the plant, against all the dullness of the typical winter. And, then, my eye traced up, I found the heaven of starling red star, sparking so brightly under the blue sky.

Anecdote
I wanted to capture this dangling drop of red with the entire carved Fleur de Li fence underneath. Here it came the limitation of using a point and shoot. If I was to zoom out far enough to do so, I would simply loose the magic of read pearl. Therefore, between the Fleur De Li fence and the single red dot, I chose to focus on the tiny plant because how one could resist the delicious shade of red, hanging right above the bed of green leaves. I think this would be easily mistaken as a photo of spring, certainly a season with much anticipation. || ANOTHER VIEW ON Flickr.

Anecdote
This particular photo is special to me as it was the very first capture of macro-esque style that evolved itself into the very foundation of UnoCosa's Small Little Things. This was taken back in June last year when the west side highline walkway just opened in Meatpacking District. Prior to that, I was never that into macro photography of any sorts, nor did I have any knowledges. Then, purely by accident, we ran into this guy who happened to be a Macro photography enthusiasts. He eagerly explained in depth to us about his Macro lens, twisted and turned the focus to show me the magic. I was totally taken by what I saw through the lens and eagerly played with my own Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, trying to find similar focus. With the shimmery light of an early summer night, without knowing how I did it, I ended up going home with this photo that had this beautiful bokha effect and was somewhat within the parameter of Macro style that I became so in love with. Though much fascinated, the notion of investing and carrying loads of lens and a big camera just did not seem manageable to me. So, ever since that day, I have been attempting to capture things in Macro style with my simple point and shoot.

Anecdote
Going to the doctor's office in a cold winter day is never a pleasant experience. Anticipating the unpredictably long hours of examinations and waiting time in between made my head spinning. There was really not much to see either during this time of year in Bay Ridge area. Everything seemed all gloom and doom. However, I found it quite interesting that all the dry bushes along the side walks were trimmed perfectly. Though not all that lively, one can sense certain care had been made to maintain the appearance of trees and the streets. And, it was within those brownish grey bushes, I discovered this perfectly round gem in its very glorious shade of navy-blue-black. Capturing this photo did cheer me up! || ANOTHER VIEW ON Flickr.

CITY DESERT

BACK TO BLACK, PART TWO: THE EDITORIAL
AM I HEADING TO THE VERY END OF DESERT
WHEN THERE IS NOBODY LEFT BUT ME?

City Desert [ Image #01 ]: WONDERING
City Desert, Image #01, photographed by Velizar Iordanov
Often, I wondered how our world will become in next ten or twenty years? Would we walk side by side with robots and have our very own surrogates like in the movie? Would we forget about handwriting and no longer send letters? Would we abandon our needs to communicate with others in person and hide ourselves behind the screens of all those digital devices?

City Desert [ Image #02 ]: WALKING ALONE
City Desert, Image #02, photographed by Velizar Iordanov
Walking alone with all the man-madeness around me, I felt so overwhelmingly alone and lost. Though I kept my head high and footsteps brisk, the longer I walked, the fewer people I encountered. Until at the end, I will be left all by myself.

City Desert [ Image #03 ]: WAIT, WAIT!
City Desert, Image #03, photographed by Velizar Iordanov
"Wait! Wait! Can you hear me? Who are you? Wny do you not speak my language?"

City Desert [ Image #04 ]: WHERE IS THE SIGN OF LIFE?
City Desert, Image #04, photographed by Velizar Iordanov
I was baffled. The wind was blowing harder and harder, penetrating through the building without stopping! I tried really hard to look straight into the eyes of bursting sun, wanting to see the sign of life. But, my eye was blinded and I saw nothing.

City Desert [ Image #06 ]: PASSING BY ME

I kept looking back, telling myself that I did not want to continue if the loneliness was my only destination. "What can I do to get back to the civilization of human accompanies?", I asked myself. Why the life I thought worthy trying turned out to be the very road that has been leadning me to be buried by the desert of solitary? And, why were you all passing me by without stopping? Weren't we all heading to the same directions or I have parted away a long time ago? I wanted to stop just for a second and think before continuing.

City Desert [ Image #07 ]: STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE

Standing in the middle of nowhere, I found no answers to my questions. There was not even a crossroad for me to choose and no sign to follow!

Maybe I am heading to the city desert. I do not know. If there are no choices, then, the one thing left to be done is to look as far as I can and envision. As long as there is hope, I still have tomorrow. Only if loosing the sight of future, I will be the same as ashes: a slight blow of wind will simply wash away all the traces of my very existence.

THE TINY HEARTS

PROJECT 2010 DAILY LOOKBOOK #043:
THE 100TH POST: LETTING LOVE FLYING IN THE AIR

... Yes, today's post marked the 100th entry for this blog. I was really hoping to make it special. But, unfortunately, I could not get to finish the editorial post that I am working on. Lately, I've been a bit lacking of inspirations in writing. So, I decided to give myself sometime to sit on that post a bit to see what comes to me. Meanwhile, I was wearing a tiny hearts dress from TopShop yesterday. Though not exactly what I envisioned how the 100th post should be, with all those red hearts flying all over, I thought it was fairly festival enough to be THE celebratory post! (A little note to myself: better making preparation earlier next time when the 200th post coming around ;-)). So, I am spreading my love to all of you today! Thank you all for the supports in past half year!

IN BETWEEN

UNOCOSA'S SMALL LITTLE THINGS #006:
UNDERNEATH THE BLUE SKY, THERE WAS STILL BARENESS.
FROM TAWNY TO AMBER, TRACES OF SPRING WERE HERE;
YET, MOSTLY, WHAT WE ENCOUNTERED WAS
THE REMAINDER OF WINTER SEASON

Anecdote
Many times we often found oursevlves in the state of being in between. The transition from one state to another, whether seasonal, momentary of forever, can often be confusing and the line becomes blurry. For example, on this past sunday when the sun was shinning so bright and the energy outdoor was so high, I was expecting to see a lots of evidences of spring while going on one of my Small Little Things expedition. But, to my surprise, what I discovered was a deep ocean of colorlessly amber-brown, filled with last bits of winter remnants, fallen from the plants. Amongst all, one do see the traces of life. Still, being in between the seasons, I found its rather hard to embrace all the liveness when everything around still reminds me the yet-to-pass monotonousness of the winter.
