... Have you ever been in a situation, in which you held on to a relationship as long and tight as you could until one day the other person simply left you and never returned?? It was then, after endlessly and hopelessly long hours of waiting, you finally realized that you were on you own again and it was time to regain your very own long-lost freedom?? As strongly as I believe one can make decisions for one's own life and has ability to change one's own destiny, I am also often surprised by the incidents, in which a decision from another person can easily turn our very own life upside down, leaving us in disbelief with tremendous amount of pain... but only to discover later that it is all for the best! Life is indeed a funny game, LOL!
I was wearing a wide leg wool pants from Bebe. For the top, 3 sheer pieces were layered together: button down chiffon shirt in black with asymmetric hem over a silk deep brown tank-tunic over another cream white silk button down sleeveless tunic. The look was accessorized by a silk dip-dye scarf-turned turban and my favorite tuxedo shoes. This entire outfit were made of pieces that I had for well over 10 years. Therefore, they have been with me through good and bad times, which was probably why it brought out certain sentimentality that very morning!

I love your turban. I love how flexible silk scarves can be. What tutorial do you use?
Most of my long term items belong to my mother, I have such an attachment to them.
How beautiful and creative. And so true - whether you are the one leaving or the one being left.
Great great layering, BTW.
I recently did. It still hurts sometimes, but deep down I know we we're so wrong for each other, so it's for the best..
But I never had the strength to stop the denial, luckily his stupidity made the final choice.
And now I'm free :)
L, you are an expert layer-er (if that's even a word). i continue to be inspired by your words and your outfit choices. i like that these items are not the latest, newest trend- but instead, are pieces you've kept and worn, making this look all the more personal and truly stylish.
as for the situation, yes, i've been there too. in retrospect, it's usually for the best, as you say.
keep inspiring us with your beauty and wisdom, Lily!
xoxo
you look so pretty! and as I were reading your first paragraph I remember that horrible feeling when someone you love leaves you... I hope it doesnt happens to us... at least not soon... have a great weekend! I love your oxford shoes :)
wow - you said it darling. and yes. and it's ALWAYS for the best. If we hold on to something way past the expiration date until it starts to stink - then breathing is most certainly easier when the dead thing gets buried. the colors and layers were well suited to the words. thoughtful post.
wow. u look great! i love how u layered all your sheer pieces. i particularly love the black one with the asymmetric hem. something about this look made me think of Tokyo. this is just wow. ^^

i love this look. there's just something about it that called to me, besides the layering which you know i love. and when you said that it was all pieces that you had for very long, it clicked into place for me.
i think it really shows when someone really loves something and keeps it for some time.
for me i hold on to habits and inanimate objects longer than people. i'm cowardy that way.
This is a really great look, love the layering and you look so chic in a turban too!
Totally love the shoes. *
First: the outfit is totally moving, conceptual, cinematographic, I love everything about it, really.
And you look so expressive yet again !
Congrats ;D
Your look is so chic, yet effortless. Love it x
It is wonderful to see chic style such as yours, but to have it followed by intelligent and heartfelt words is simply beautiful!
We've added you to our blog roll.
xo
A and A

Oh how I love this post - and the outfit! I have several ancient clothes in my wardrobe, too - and fortunately they are such uncomplicated creatures that our relationship has just lasted over the years.
The thing you said about relationships... ...I think that it is easily applicable to many difficult changes in life in general. First you feel unfortunate and miserable. Some water under the bridges... ...few new opportunities, some tears, re-adjusting, speaking with friends and loved ones, more re-adjusting... ...and suddenly you realize what a blessing in disguise that misfortune actually was...
i get giddy at the sight of your amazing layered outfit...thank you xo
Such a beautiful post, dear.. Can totally relate to what you said about holding on too long, lol. Great pictures as always :)
